Rabodiga è nata nel 1983 a Saragoza, Spagna, dove ha vissuto fino all’età di 18 anni, spostatasi poi per studiare belle arti nell’università di Valencia. Ha vissuto per un anno a londra e ora vive a Barcellona, Rabodiga mischia illustrazioni, pitture tradizionali e graffiti con i suoi studi di fotografia e tatuaggi, disegnando ragazze che rappresentano il suo alter ego, attraverso le quali comunica un mondo profondamente nascosto all’esterno, provando a riversare quello che percepisce in qualcosa piu bello del mondo che la circonda… andiamo a conoscerla meglio…

-R-Rabodiga.. Parlaci di te…

-T- HOla! Era Rabodiga, ma recentemente l’ho cambiato in TURKESA, che attenzione, non ha niente a che fare con la Turchia eh… ma con il mio colore preferito, il truchese
Ho quasi 27 anni, sono spagnola e sono un artista, grazie per avermi contattato per fare questa intervista!

-R-Ti sei contradistinta per le tue rappresentazioni femminili, si pu≥ subito notare una somiglianza con te nel tuo personaggio…

-T-Quando iniziai a dipingere su muro, non ho mai pensato di disegnare me stessa, ma poco tempo dopo, qualcuno ha notato questa somiglianza e dopo di che un sacco di gente ha iniziato a dirmi che era proprio il mio alter ego. Quindi… ho realizzato che stavo effettivamente dipingendo me stessa attraverso questi soggetti femminili. Comunque non penso davvero di assomigliarci, loro sono molto piu belle di me, ehehe. Ma gli do il potere di esprimere tutto ciò che non riesco a dire a parole. questa é la ragione per cui sono una pittrice e non una scrittrice,uso l’arte per sprimere me stessa, non le parole.

-R-Sei un’artista molto polivalente, passi dallo spray al marker ai pennelli con estrema destrezza,c’è comunque una predilizione da parte
tua di una di queste tecniche o pensi che nel mixedmeding uno possa trovare piu completezza tecnica?

-T-Ho disegnato, colorato e creato immagini fin dalla mia infanzia.credo che sia solo esperienza, come lo stile che cambia sempre, si evolve in altri cammini e tutto quello che accade durante il tragitto ti rende solo piu ricco… intendo, ho bisogno di dipingere, di fotografare di disegnare… di creare e come lo faccio non è cosi importante come il fatto che sto esprimendo me stessa. Non importa quale tecnica usi e se le mischi. Il processo è il medesimo e si spera anche il risultato sia un successo. Comunque, mi sento molto piu a mio agio dipingendo che facendo qualsiasi altra cosa, ma amo troppe cose, la fotografia, i tatuaggi, deign e una lunga fila di ecc…. forse dovrei concentrare le mie energie solo su una cosa… ma sarebbe davvero noioso… non trovi??

-R-Il Lettering è sempre stata e da sempre è una una parte importante di questo movimento. ti sei mai avventurata nel mondo
della lettere o hai da subito fatto figurativo?

-T-Ho iniziato con il figurativo, perchè so che è quello che mi riesce meglio ( anche se I prim pezzi sono sempre terribili, eheh) dopo 2 anni ho provato a mettere piede nel territorio del lettering ma è una cosa che proprio non mi appartiene. Son messa proprio male a studio della lettere, quindi continuo a fare cio che mi riesce meglio e che piu mi diverte.

-R-Tatuaggi. Il tuo stile si applica molto anche al mondo del tatuaggio, ho notato un certo riferimento al mondo cichano o comunque messicano in alcuni tuoi lavori..

-T-Amo il mondo dei tatuaggi. Fin da ragazzina ho sempre voluto diventare una tatuatrice ed essere tatuata dai migliori.fin’ora non avevo mai avuto l’opportunità di apprendere le tecniche del tatuaggio, ed è quello che sto facendo. Quindi ora son piu che felice di vedere i miei sogni diventare realtà. Prima, quando non avevo le macchine e gli strumenti, dipingevo cmq i temi classici del tatuaggio su muri e tele e continuo a farlo, forse anche di piu adesso. Ma la mia passione non ha niente a che fare con il messicano o il chinano.

-R-Grafiche per Street Wear. come sei entrata nel mondo delle grafiche per le linee di abbigliamento, hai dovuto adeguarti
a certe richieste del brand oppure hai avuto carta bianca?

-T-La verità è che ho a malapena disegnato poche cose… ho avuto la bouna opportunità di lavorare con una grande marca quando ero a londra ma non ha funzionato. Voglio iniziare a disegnare più vestisti e se sono brava come vorrei. Comunque, lavorare su commissione è sempre molto difficile, fare un lavoro appagante sia per loro che per te è quasi una cosa impossibile da realizzare. La combo, pazienza sorrisi e un buon lavoro che parli al posto tuo funzionano sempre però.

-R-La scena spagnola è da sempre una delle piu potenti e di spicco a livello mondiale. cosa ti ha portato a trasferirti a londra?

-T-La spagna è il paese del sole, del buon cibo, delle gran feste, buona arte e cultura e ottima gente, MA dove cavolo sono i soldi?!?!? Purtroppo in spagna la quota che la gente destina al e per l’arte è minore che nel resto d’europa. Ma non è stato questo il motivo per cui mi sono trasferita a londra, l’ho fatto per studiare fotografia all’università e allo tempo stesso per avere piu opportunità lavorative nel difficile mondo dell’arte.ho avuto un feedback molto buono e sono molto felice di aver conosciuto molte persone che ora sono diventate amiche, è stata una grande esperienza che mi ha fatto crescere come persona e come artista; ma non posso resistere senza il sole per più di un anno, quindi sono tornata in Spagna dove tutt’ora risiedo. Continuerò sicuramente ad andare a londra, sia per andare a trovare i miei amici sia per le esibizioni e le esposizioni, ma per adesso… preferisco starmene al caldo

-R-Parli molto bene l’italiano e so che sei stata molto legata all’italia, cosa ne pensi della nostra scena?

-T-Heheheh non so molto bene come risponderti sai?… sfortunatamente non ero ancora entrata nel mondo del writing quando vivevo in italia, ero solo una pittrice. Che peccato, pensa che ho vissuto davanti a una yarda per 2 anni e non ho mai fatto un pezzo!!! Solo dopo ho incontrato un sacco di writer italiani e penso che ce ne siano di davvero bravi, ma non mi sono molto informata ultimamente della sfera dei graffiti, e a parte quelli che conosco gia non so molto di quello che succede al di fuori del mio mondo (…la la land….)

-R-Esposizioni, mostre e lavori su commissione; un mondo alternativo e moderno della graff culture, cosa ne pensi e quali sono secondo i vantaggi e gli svantaggi
di questo nuovo modo di esprire un’arte che nasce dalla metro e dai assalti sui muri?

-T-Io penso che i pezzi siano una cosa e le espo un’altra. Si, magari possono essere legate ma non sono la stessa cosa.è difficile da spiegare. Per esempio, nel mio caso, non uso spesso gli spray sulle tele. Li uso solo all’aperto… espongo le mie opere in una galleria e i graffiti in strada. Non mi piace la piega che sta prendendo adesso la cultura urbana ed il modo in cui tutti la usino come arma per rendere i loro annunci pubblicitari piu freschi e per dare stile, ma è difficile spiegare tutte queste cose… è troppo complicato definirsi writer e artista allo stesso tempo, io considero me stessa, una che dipinge, e il modo in cui lo faccio deve piacere in primis a me, so che gli altri non mi considerano “reale” ma non mi frega… amo dipingere e questa è la cosa piu importante…

Hello! Actually name was Rabodiga, but recently I´ve changed it for TURKESA, which has nothing to do with Turkey, but with my favorite color: turquoise
Im almost 27, Im from Spain and Im an artist, thanks for contacting me for making this interview!

You’ve been noticed for your representations of women, you can immediately notice a similarity with you in your character …

When I started to paint on walls, I never thought I was painting myself, but after a while, somebody noticed it and more people started to tell me that must be my alter ego… Then I realized I was painting myself through those girls I use to do. I don´t think I look like them, hehe, they´re much more beautiful, but I give them the power to express what I cannot do in words, that´s why Im a painter and not a writer, I guess.

You are a very versatile artist, moving from sprays, markers to brushes with extreme dexterity, there’s a preference on your part to one of these techniques or you think that in mixed media one can find the most comprehensive technique?

I´ve been painting, drawing and creating images since my childhood. I think it´s just experience, as the style changes all the time, evolves to other paths and whatever happens in the middle just makes it richer… I mean, I need to paint, to photograph, to draw…to create, and the way I do it is not as important as the fact of expressing myself. It doesn´t matter which technique you use, if you mix them. The process is the main thing, and hopefully the result will also be successful. Anyway, I feel more comfortable painting than doing anything else, but I love too many things, photography, tattoo, design, and a long etc… Maybe I should focus my energies in only one thing, but that would be very boring, isn´t it?

The lettering has always been and always is an important part of this movement.you’ve never ventured into the world of letters or you have now made figurative?

I started with characters, that is what I knew how to do better (even if the first pieces are always awfull! hehe) After 2 years I tried to paint letters, but it´s not my thing. Im really very bad at lettering, so I will keep on doing what I can enjoy doing most.

Tattoos. Your style is very applicable to the world of tattooing, I noticed a reference to the world cichano Mexican or some of your work ..
I love tattoo world. Since I was a kid I wanted to become a tattoo artist, and to get tattooed by the best ones. Until now I did´t have the opportunity to start learning how to tattoo, and it is what I am doing. So Im more than happy to make my dream become true. Before, when I still didn´t have the machines and the stuff, I used to paint those themes on canvases and walls, and I will keep on doing it, maybe even more now… But my passion has nothing to do with mexicans or chicanos…

Graphics for Street Wear. as you enter the world of graphics for clothing lines, you had to be suitable for certain applications of the brand or you had carte blanche?

The truth is that I barely have designed few things… I had a good opportunity to work with a big brand when I was in London but it didn´t work out at the end. I want to start to design more clothes and to see if Im as good as I would like to. However, working for clients is always a hard thing to do, to please them and to please yourself at the same time is something almost impossible to make. The mix between patience, smiles and a well done job that speaks by itself always work!

the Spanish scene has always been one of the most powerful and prominent worldwide. what brings you to move to London?

Spain is the country of sun, good food, good parties, good art, good culture, and good people, BUT where the hell is the money??? Sadly, in Spain the amount of money that people spend in art is less than in the rest of Europe. That was not the reason I went to London, it was to study photography there in the university, and at the same time to get more opportunities in the hard world of art. I had a very good feedback and Im very happy to have known all my friends there, it was a great experience that made me grow as a person and as artist, but I cannot live without the sun for more than one year, so I came back to Spain, where I live right now. I will keep on going to London often to see friends, and make exhibitions, but for now I prefer to stay here

you speak Italian very well and I know you’ve been very tied to Italy, what do you think of our scene?

Hehehe I don´t know very well what to say… Unfortunately I was not a writer when I was living in Italy, I was just a painter. What a shame, I was living in front of the yard for 2 years and I never painted anything there!!!
Afterwards I have met many writers from Italy, and I think there´re many good artists there, but Im not very into graffiti lately, and apart from the guys I already know, I don´t know a lot of what´s happening out of my own world (…lalaland…)

exhibitions, shows and commissioned works, an alternative and modern review of the graff culture. what you think and what do the pros and cons of this new way of esprire art that comes from the metro and the assaults on the walls?

I think graffiti is one thing and an exhibition is another thing. They can be related but they’re not the same. It´s hard to explain. For instance, in my case, I never use spray paint on canvases, I use it outside… I exhibit my pieces of art in a gallery, and my graffitis in the street. I don´t like how things are becoming with urban culture, and the way everybody uses it as a ¨coolish¨ way to be, to promote their advertisments, etc… But it´s difficult to explain all those things, it´s too complicated to call yourself a graffiti writer and an artist at the same time, I consider myself somebody who paints, and the way I do it has only to please me, I know others don´t consider me ¨real¨ but I don´t mind at all… I enjoy painting, that´s the main thing.
